XDx Inc. is a venture-backed privately held molecular diagnostics company based in Brisbane, California. Setting the stage for a new era in personalized medicine, XDx is one of the first companies to develop practical applications built on insights from the Human Genome Project. The company has developed a proprietary new method to noninvasively monitor the immune system by measuring gene expression in a patient’s peripheral blood.

XDx technology translates the complex signals of the immune system’s multiple genes and pathways into an objective, actionable score that helps physicians improve patient management. The technology offers the potential to decrease healthcare costs and significantly improve the quality of life for patients with a variety of life-threatening diseases.

Several leading US heart transplant centers have incorporated XDx’s first technology application -- AlloMap molecular expression testing -- into their patient management protocols. AlloMap testing is a service performed solely at the XDx Reference Laboratory, which received CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) certification in November 2004.

XDx first developed the technology for use in heart transplantation for several reasons: a transplanted organ has a well-known, distinguishable effect on the immune system; transplantation has a well-defined and accessible patient population; and there is an obvious need for a more accurate, cost-effective and noninvasive transplant patient management tool.

Beyond heart transplantation, XDx is applying its proven development methodology and currently conducting clinical studies in lung transplantation and autoimmune disorders.
