CARGO II Study
The CARGO II study, underway at nineteen transplant centers from three continents, was initiated in April 2005 to confirm and extend the results of the Cardiac Allograft Rejection Gene expression Observational (CARGO) study in an international setting. The original CARGO study, begun in 2001, was a sample and data collection effort undertaken at eight major U.S. transplant centers. Using CARGO study data, XDx developed and validated AlloMap molecular expression testing, a multi-gene expression assay that detects the absence of acute cellular rejection in clinically stable cardiac allograft recipients. AlloMap testing was launched by the CLIA-certified XDx Reference Laboratory in November 2004.

XDx scientists and investigators participating in the CARGO II study are investigating whether gene expression can:
Identify patients at low risk for rejection in an international setting
Predict future acute cellular rejection and future graft dysfunction
Monitor and guide the use of immunosuppression
Diagnose and predict humoral rejection
Risk stratify patients for vasculopathy

The CARGO II study and database will provide an unparalleled resource for genomic and molecular diagnostic studies in cardiac transplantation.
